Kossuth Kifli (Moon Crescents)

1/2 lb butter
1  1/2  cups sugar
1  3/4 cups flour
3  teaspoons baking powder
9 eggs separated
Grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
1 cup chopped walnuts 

Cream butter and sugar, add beaten egg yolks, dry ingredients and lemon; beat well.  Gently fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.  Pour into greased and floured sheet pan.  Sprinke top with walnuts.  Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool.  Cut crescent shapes with donut  or biscuit cutter.  Sprinke with powdered sugar.  
The leftover odd shapes can be covered with chocolate pudding and whipped cream.  Delicious!
